What It’s All About … A Look Inside Micro Community Grants
As you know, the members of Team Little Guy are runners of various skill levels. Some run for recreation, others love the thrill of competition and push themselves to excel at the sport.
But if one thing ties Team Little Guy together, it’s their view of this effort as a chance to support the wonderful work of the Micro Community Grants program. As you probably know, the MCG program is the Social Responsibility Project of the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation.
In short, the Foundation receives grant requests from terrific non-profit agencies in North and South Carolina. These non-profits work with credit unions on the local level to shepherd the grants through.
The video clip you’ll see is from a recent grant recipient - the Fusion Warehouse in Anderson, SC. Fusion provides a safe and positive hang out for young people in Anderson. Open for just 15 months, Fusion already has more than 6,500 young people in Anderson County who regularly come on weekends to escape negative influences such as drugs and alcohol, as well as gangs.
The video explores how the grants are funded, and the tremendous impact they’re having on the lives of people in communities across the Carolinas.
This very special place epitomizes the people helping people philosophy of credit unions. And for all the smack talk Team Little Guy does and fun that the team likes to have, it’s nice to know that their efforts are helping agencies like Fusion Warehouse help young people in a variety of life circumstances.
Congratulations to the Foundation for being such a terrific vessel for credit union philanthropy, and an emerging agent of community building throughout the Carolinas.
Run Little Guy Run!
