Saying Thanks to Credit Unions After A Long, Hilly Run!

Posted in Blue Ridge Relay Race, Carolinas Credit Union Foundation, Credit Unions, Team Little Guy on September 12, 2008 by teamlittleguy

We did it, and we have the pictures to prove it! Team Little Guy completed the Blue Ridge Relay Race in a little over 32 hours, running continuously from Grayson Highlands, VA to Asheville, NC.

Along the way, the team managed to make some friends, share a little information about credit unions and the team, and not get eaten by a bear or hit by a bus. Oh, and here’s the really cool part: credit unions in the Carolinas combined to contribute $80,000 to support the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation in support of TLG!

Here’s a few thoughts from some of the team members about the race, how simply awesome credit unions are, and what it’s like to run in a race that’s so unusual.

Much more video to come next week.

Rest Little Guy, REST!

Esteve brings TLG across the finish line in Asheville at 4:03pm.  The team of 12 tired little runners and 2 tired little drivers is finally done with their 36 legs and 208 miles through the mountains of NC on the Blue Ridge Parkway.  Those guys are over due for some rest, relaxation & celebration!!

Way to go TLG!!!

More photos and info to follow later.

TLG is ALMOST done!!!  Looks like they will be arriving in Asheville around 4pm.  Below is a picture of Bubba & the Major as they were chillin’ waiting for the handoff from Mark to Esteve so they could head on in to Asheville…

WAY TO GO GUYS – you’re almost done!!  I believe your teammates have some cold beverages waiting on you… Unless they have drank all of that H20 & Gatorade…. :)

Ford is back in and Dan is out for his last leg of the race.  While Mark is gearing up for his last leg of the race, which is a HUGE uphill leg…  Then Esteve will take the team home downhill into Asheville.

I’ve only “heard” one story of the guys getting lost, not saying which van…  I’m thinking they must have run into one these things…

OR maybe it was this….

Either way… I think the whole team has done an AWESOME job!  The drivers have gotten the team where they need to be and the runners have been running all night!  WAY TO GO guys!!!  You have all come together for a great cause and of course thanks to everyone who has supported the team and this event!!  You are almost done!!

RUN LITTLE GUYS!!! RUN!!!

Only 4 legs left…

The Major is “done have Mountain Goat for dinner!”  Bubba has made it back in and Big Daddy Ford is out on the course.  Reports are that the guys from Van 1 are chillin’ back in Asheville some in the hot tub with some cold beverages (I’m sure they mean they are replenishing with nice cold H2O or maybe they meant Gatorade… :) )

Van 2 takes over – Mountain Goat…

This is apparently what Major has to run...

The Van 2 runners have taken their place back out on the course.  The Major headed out at 10:16 on his hardest and last leg of the race - that they lovingly refer to as Mountain Goat Hard!

Van 1 is finished with their part of the race and they are chillin’ and waiting for their teammates.

Once again, service isn’t that great in the mountains… so updates will be posted as they come in.

Van 1’s motivation for pushing through

Slack before they reminded him about Pensacola...

Slack before they reminded him about Pensacola...

For Van 1 it wasn’t a turkey sandwich they were dreaming of that got them through their last legs of this race… it was what they were going to find in Pensacola!!!  Slack was in @10:16, so the team could all enjoy…

We were able to get a few pictures of the Van 1 runners after they finished their last legs of the race…

TLG extra… The team learned last year that Jr would fall asleep on the ride and figured he could fall asleep just about anywhere, but today they saw it first hand when he nodded off at the breakfast table…

Van 1 finishing up their last legs of the race

This is the hardest part of the race for the little guys!  The guys in Van 1 roll away from the Pine Valley Motel @ 3:05 with about 1 1/2 hours of sleep to go run their last legs of the race.  However, this is the van with Slack & Agnoli so there was no lack of entertainment.  Once the punchiness set in, which apparently didn’t take long at all with those two, so did the entertainment.  Reports of comedy routines from movies (I “heard” Fried Green Tomatoes – those boys MUST have been tired!!) and then singing… where is the video camera when you really need it!!!

Oh yeah, back to the race… Badrad started his leg at 4:02am, ran “great” on a hard gravely leg back in at 5:15am, way to go Badrad!  Austin was next for a Hard 6 miler and was back in @ 6:13am.  Then Jr out and away for his last 5mile leg, he knocked it right out and back in at 6:59am to hand off to Sciandra who came up big – 8 miles is 58 minutes! He was in @ 7:57am and handed off to Agnoli. The guys are hanging out at the exchange zone waiting on Agnoli and are all tired…  But the thoughts of pancakes in Pensacola are getting them through it all.

21 down and only 15 to go…

Bubba & Ford are back in.  Schline is on the course now and is expected to finish about 3am.  These ”little guys” are tough or crazy still not sure which!

Keep up the good work guys!!  Run Little Guys!! Run!!

Van 2 runners are back out on course

The boys in Van 2 have taken back over.  I never heard the report on how Slack did, but obviously he made it in, because Heyden took over from there.  Heyden has made it back in and Bubba is out on the course for his second time for Leg 20 and the report is it’s going to be a very hard leg!
