Latest update from TLG… The guys are waiting for Slack at the fire station in Plumtree. He took the handoff from Agnoli @ 10:57pm, so they expect him in somewhere around midnight…
Here are a few more pictures from the day.
Austin is in @9:18 and said “My calves are barking!” That leg was a rough 10 miler! As he handed off to Junior for a 3 miler downhill off the mountain. Luckily, Junior had no brake failure on the way down… and was in at 9:32pm. Sciandra was off for a quick 3miler. The guys in the van are just hoping that he doesn’t beat them there…
Austin was asked about his run… “I was promised a turkey sandwich by Slack when I finished that leg. All the way up that steep, 10 mile hill (which David Brehmer told me was flat)… I was dreaming about that sandwich. I bust it all the way to the top, and guess what? No sandwich!! Nothing! NADA!!!!!”
Badrad was back in at 7:50pm and Austin is out on his way up Grandfather Mountain.
More to come…
The team is currently hanging out at the Tanger outlet, passing out TLG t-shirts and other TLG & “bling” Van 1 was able to get a little rest and are ready to go back out on the course. Badrad is great his “gear” on to be ready when Esteve comes in. (After 7:30, the teams must wear vests on the course.) TLG reports that there are ALOT more teams this year. The word has gotten out about this really cool event!!
John Slack gave the race coordinators a check for $5,000 this morning. Keep in mind that this event (The Blue Ridge Relay) raised $6,700 last year, so the generosity of CUs will have a very big impact!! All of the proceeds ot this gift support the Avon Foundation, which provides support to battered women. All of the people who supported TLG shold be proud… We are certainly proud of credit unions for being so generous!
Service up in the mountains is not the best… But the last update was that Schline is still out on the road and Mark is awaiting his initial hand-off to take his turn out on the course. Which means that Heyden, Bubba & Ford have all finished their first legs of the relay. Way to go guys! Keep it up!!
Agnoli made it in @ 11:50 (reportedly with no dog prints). Slack was in @12:52. The Major is now out on the course. It’s getting “toasty”! Van 1 is headed for lunch & relaxation. However, they have asked that if anyone could send clouds their way, that would be great!
More photos (before Van 2 runners hit the road)…
Wow… when I put it like, I’m almost glad my knee wasn’t healthy enough to run this year…
The guys are still looking good! The last report was Sciandra came in @ 10:53am after a hilly course. The weather is starting to get warm. The sun is bright and beating down hard…
Agnoli is off and running, we’ll see if he finds any more four legged friends this year!
