Team Little Guy is packing up and getting ready to hit the Blue Ridge Relay in full force. Thought you might be interested in a leg by leg overview the first 12 legs of the race. We will update the blog as we go through the rest of the legs.
Leg 1: 07:45
At, Badrad starts leg one at the Grayson Highlands State Park visitor center and runs an easy 4 miles down hill. The elevation starts at 4900 feet and drops to 4000. Badrad will be fitted with a parachute to help him stop at the exchange.
Leg 2: 8:17 am
Leg 2 is run by Austin Braithwait from US Central Federal Credit Union. His 7.5 mile hard leg will consist of a steady downhill run on narrow gravel and dirt roads. Two of the miles will be on Wolf Knob #797—good luck with this road Austin.
Leg 3: 9:13 am
John Jr. jumps out of the van to take on leg 3 from Helton United Methodist Church to Landmark Baptist Church a 5.2 mile medium difficulty run. Being raised Methodist Jr. will take a little time out in a pew at Helton UMC to ward off the killer black bears he might encounter on Silas Creek #1523.

“Where is Junior? He’s late!”
Leg 4: 10 am
Dan Sciandra, better known as the Italian Stallion (still trying to figure out how he got that name) and a member of Hanes Brands Credit Union will run a 6.9 mile hard trek to Ashe County Park.

“L’uomo, ciò era un duro è corso per lo Stallone italiano!”
Leg 5: 10:55 am
Agnoli takes over Badrad’s old route and runs 5.2 medium difficulty miles through the town of West Jefferson. Last year Ed was caught running through the McDonalds drive through and picking up a Happy Meal. We hope that doesn’t happen again.

“I said a Happy Meal with a boy toy!”
Leg 6: 11:50 am
New to Team Little Guy member “The One and Only Slacker” (John Slack) debuts his running skills on a 5.2 mile medium course. He gets to take in a beautiful view of Bluff Mountain and its waterfall. This will give him a chance to reflect on how good he had it last year as Van 2 driver.

“Wow man!”
Leg 7: 12:40 pm
After getting to sleep in, Van 2 takes over and the first one out is the Major. Heyden will set a land speed record on this 5.4 medium difficulty route. Most of the run is on Highway 194 which is heavily traveled, winding and has tight shoulders. Last year a report indicated that two trucks were destroyed and it was attributed to a runners Special Forces training—not sure if that was the Major or one of the Cowbells.

“The next car that gets close to the Major is history!”
Leg 8: 1:18 pm
Bubba (hopefully not in his Speedo) hits the pavement on an easy 4.6 mile run. Not much to say about this one unless he does wear his Speedo and then there will be a lot to say.

Leg 9: 2 pm
Ford is next and gets to run a flat 5.2 mile easy course. He ends on Big Hill Road even though there are no hills on this route. I think last year he changed the road sign to make us think he had a hard route. Nice try Ford.
Leg 10: 2:46 pm
Last year Schline ran this route in course record time. Story has it he was hitch hiking and got a ride for 4 of the 8.2 miles he was supposed to run. This year he picks up the wrist band at Green Valley Community Park and rolls into Laurel Springs Baptist Church. We will be checking his GPS watch to see if he breaks 55 MPH.

“This worked great last year. Trust me man!”
Leg 11: 3:59 pm
Another newbie, Mark Caverly AKA Caveman (we have learned not to ask how team members got their nicknames) starts out with a 6.3 mile hard run on the Blue Ridge Parkway which ends at the Mount Vernon Baptist Church. Welcome to mountain running Caveman.

“I just saved 7 minutes on my run.”
Leg 12: 4:56 pm
Finishing up Van 2’s first segments is Esteve who will run the first “Very Hard” 7.9 mile run. He has to climb 600 feet in four miles but lucky him he gets to shop at the Tanger Outlet mall in Blowing Rock where Van 1 takes back over.
